Malta is home to two premier sites on the Montana Dinosaur Trail. The Dinosaur Field Station and the Phillips County Museum both feature real fossil discoveries from the nearby Judith River Formation of the late cretaceous period 77 million years ago.

Montana Dinosaurs!
Notable exhibits at the Phillips County Museum (located on Highway 2 east in Malta) include a 33-foot long skeleton of "Elvis" the Brachylophosaurus, one of the best articulated dinosaur skeletons ever found, a complete T. rex skull and a dynamically posed 28" skeleton of a T. rex cousin, Albertosaurus.

Admission for adults is $3 and youth 12 and under are $1. Season hours are May thru October - Monday - Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM and Sundays 12:30 to 5PM. Phone 406-654-1037 or email pcm@mtintouch.net for more information. Gift shop on site.

The Dinosaur Field Station, (located on US 2, just north of the BNSF railroad underpass in Malta) offers the public an intimate look into a working fossil laboratory. Visitors can view "Leonardo the Mummy Dinosaur" still under preparation, as well as "Roberta" another remarkable Brachylophosaurus with preserved tendons and "Peanut" an infant Bracylophosaurus.

Guided tours of the laboratory - $5 adults and youth 12 and under $3. Season begins the end of May to September, Monday thru Saturday 10AM to 5Pm and Sunday Noon to 5PM. Special tours by appointment. Contact 406-654-5300 or email dinosaur@mtintouch.net
